How to use it

  3. Press Compress, wait for the bar to finish, then download the MP4.

About this tool

Most phone videos are far larger than they need to be. This tool re-encodes the video with H.264 at a higher compression level and can lower the resolution, which usually cuts the size by half or more. The encoder is FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, so the work happens on your device and the file never reaches a server. The first run downloads the encoder, about 30 MB, which your browser keeps for next time.

Questions

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. Compression runs in your browser with FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. The file stays on your device.

How large a video can I use?

The limit for your plan is shown above the tool. Large files need a lot of memory, so on a phone shorter clips work best.

Which setting should I choose?

Balanced with a 720p maximum suits WhatsApp, Discord and email. Choose Smallest with 480p when a limit is tight. Choose Light to keep detail.

Why is it slow?

Encoding uses your device processor, one thread at a time. A one minute 1080p clip can take a few minutes. Keep the tab open until it finishes.
